A.P. Construction Company has completed construction on Newman’s Own World Headquarters in Westport, CT. The project included construction of a new main building along with renovations of two smaller existing buildings. CPG Architects was the architecture firm for the project.

Newman’s Own is a food company, started by actor Paul Newman in 1982, which produces nearly 100 food products and gives 100% of after-tax profits to charities. The company has donated more than $430 million to a multitude of charities over the past 33 years.

The $6.7 million project included demolition of the former main building and the construction of a new main building. The 22,000-square-foot building includes two custom kitchens, modern fiber optic communication systems, energy management systems, new windows, and new elevators. A new boardroom, a 3 story showcase staircase, and exposed ductwork and sprinklers to allow for higher ceilings were part of construction. New roofs and exterior trims were installed for all three buildings.

The project required an upgraded fire system, new HVAC system, and new bathrooms. Furthermore, A.P. Construction completed landscaping work and custom signage for the new headquarters.

Despite unexpected acoustical design issues and a late new electrical service requirement, the project was completed within budget and the client moved in on time.

The project included the use of reclaimed wood and sustainable materials for all millwork. A.P. Construction specializes in eco-friendly construction and green building techniques so these materials and their installation were already familiar to the A.P. Construction team.

The A.P. Construction’s team overseeing the project included Project Manager Doug Shearer and Superintendent Jim Bartram.
