Phase I:

  • Renovation of Riverwalk Level and Interim Library, allowing continuous operation while construction of upper levels was underway. Other work included the Grand Staircase that brings patrons from Riverwalk Level to the Main Level, a temporary children’s area, new finishes and furniture, restroom renovations, and new mechanical equipment.
  • Phase 1 required the installation of 12 exterior piles and 26 piles driven on the inside with caps, structural slab, and a methane diversion system since the structure is on a landfill.

Phase II

  • Construction of The Forum – a large, flexible, open space on the main floor used for meetings, study, and reconfigured to accommodate up to 650 people for large events. Other features also included expansion and renovation of the library’s store, café with outdoor seating, conference and program rooms, a new recording studio, new energy efficient mechanical systems, modernized restrooms, new elevator, fire pump and generator.
  • Construction management services included: constructability reviews, budgeting, value engineering, logistical planning, safety planning, subcontractor bid and award, pre-purchase program, scheduling, and construction.
