Project Description:
- Project involved the renovation of a wing of the former Roosevelt Elementary School for six pre-school classrooms each with direct access to a toilet room. Work also included the construction of a new entry and vestibule, conference facility, eight offices, and a nurse room.
- The existing gym was renovated with new windows, lights, speakers and fans and finished in bright colors to provide an open feeling. The existing restrooms were renovated. The central hallways were also upgraded with new lights, bright colors, a floor to resemble railroad tracks, and canopies to imitate railroad stations.
- Exterior work included new windows, new entry sidewalk and ramp, a new parking lot and new access to the playground.
- The building needed to be brought up to current code relative to egress, restrooms, emergency lighting and fire alarm. Selective demolition involved the extensive abatement of hazardous materials.
- A major challenge of the construction was to control noise and vibrations since a portion of the building was in use as an adult day care center.
- Construction management services included review of alternate designs and phasing schemes, budgeting, value engineering, subcontractor bid and award, safety and logistical planning, pre-purchase program, scheduling, and construction.
