Project Description:
- Project included new additions and renovations as the second major phase of upgrading the facility. The YMCA remained open throughout the construction process requiring daily communication with staff, careful coordination of mechanical changes, and a temporary egress route.
- The aquatic center was upgraded by renovating the existing competition pool and replacing a small four-lane lap pool with a new eight-lane lap pool and a family recreation pool. The new pools are in a new structure with clear two story windows.
- The existing gymnasium with two basketball courts was renovated with new wood flooring, lights, mechanical systems, and storage rooms.
- The locker rooms received a full reconstruction with new facilities for men, boys, women, girls, and family lockers. Facilities also included new sauna and steam rooms.
- Other areas of the building were renovated to create a café, offices, an intergenerational recreation room, a cycling studio with room for 36 machines, a group walking studio with room for 24 machines, an extensive exercise facility in two rooms, a mind body studio, and a family adventure center to better accommodate youths with special needs.
- Site work included a new playground, multi-purpose field, and an extension of the parking facilities. New underground oil and propane tanks were installed. The site is encumbered with a major gas distribution line that had to be worked around.
- Construction management services included: constructability reviews, budgeting, value engineering, logistical planning, safety planning, subcontractor bid and award, safety and logistical planning, pre-purchase program, scheduling, and construction.
