Over the past 19 years A.P. Construction has been awarded 15 construction projects for Greens Farms Academy, a private pre K through 12 school set on a 40-acre campus overlooking Long Island Sound in Westport, CT. Totaling nearly 200,000 square feet, the projects completed include new school structures, additions, interior and exterior renovations and site work.

At the end of 2015 APC completed the construction of a new 21,000 square-foot performing arts center with a classroom extension fully integrated into the existing school structures, and extensive site work. The center includes a 441-seat auditorium, stage, fly loft, orchestra pit, catwalk, a 2,000 square-foot glass enclosed reception lobby, pantry, restrooms, coat room, and storage. Work also included audio visual room and facilities, mechanical systems, and stairs tied into site work. Site work included the replacement of existing septic system with a force main, fiber optic and electrical service, a courtyard with stepped seating for an outdoor classroom, stairs, and connecting paths. APC’s construction management services for this project included: constructability reviews, budgeting, value engineering, subcontractor bid and award, safety and logistical planning, pre-purchase program, scheduling, and construction. Roger Ferris + Partners is the architect.

“We are thankful Greens Farms Academy trusts us to be their construction manager of choice. Our long-standing partnership and the high-quality projects completed are a true testament to our strong collaboration with the GFA staff, architects and our subcontractors. And, because of our mutual understanding that our foremost responsibility is ensuring the safety of the students, staff and school operations,” said Andrew Ashforth, President & CEO of A.P. Construction and Co-CEO of The Ashforth Company.

Recently APC installed Rhea, a bronze cast sculpture, on the GFA grounds. The Ashforth Company, APC’s parent company has loaned Rhea to GFA. Rhea, weighing about 2,000 pounds, is an abstract representation of the Greek Titaness daughter of the earth goddess, Gaia. Ashforth commissioned renowned sculptor William G. Tucker for the piece back in 1985 for its Greenwich Plaza office complex (Read story on Rhea: A 30-year Retrospect).

20 years ago A.P. Construction entered the school market and has since completed more than 50 projects totaling over $500 million in the Connecticut and Westchester County, NY. Over the years APC’s team members overseeing the numerous GFA projects included Vice President David Breidenbach, Project Managers Len Benigno, Kevin Deane, Frank Fazekas, Doug Shearer and Superintendents Craig Golding, Ed Mackowski, Gene Marini, and Paul Torcellini.
