Project Description:

  • Restoration and preservation of a historic structure.  Structural improvements included a new foundation, extensive framing alterations and reinforcements to the existing structure.
  • Closed loop geothermal heating system was installed.  Due to the building’s location on an island with a small bridge, the drill rig was lifted over the bridge by crane and re-assembled before the four wells could be drilled.
  • Exterior work included a new wood shingle roof, lead abatement, window re-glazing, refurbishment of the wood shingle siding, masonry repairs and both hard and soft landscape improvements.
  • Interior work involved full asbestos and lead abatement, the removal of sheetrock walls, restoration of old doorways, the staircase and masonry fireplaces, installation of new power and lighting systems, new code required upgrades and all new finishes for the spaces including offices, classrooms and exhibit space.
